00 · What we doAI we built

One job: market entry. Three ways, all with AI.

Everything Metis owns exists to get a brand across the UK–China border, and all of it is AI we built. The founders run it on your brief, one in London, one in Shanghai.

01Rehearse it

Metis Avatar, our patented AI, plays whoever you have to face, in the other language. Your team practises before the real meeting.

02Make it

Metis Studio, our AI film pipeline, generates brand films and KOL videos with production scoped to the brief.

03Cross it

A founder at each end takes what the AI found into the room: the route, the due diligence, the introductions in person.

Rehearse it. Before the real meeting.

Pick who you have to face. This is the kind of opening line Metis Avatar puts to your team, in the other language, built from what the audit found. It scores the session afterwards.

Metis Avatar turns your curriculum or company knowledge into conversation practice. We configure an AI partner around your approved materials, give it a relevant role and align feedback with your learning objectives. Your people then practise through calls or a visual avatar.

02 · Make itMetis Studio · our own pipeline

Make it. Two kinds of film, one pipeline.

Brand films that establish who you are. KOL videos and ads with an AI presenter, made in volume for TikTok, Facebook and Instagram. Directed by us, rendered shot by shot.

Brand films can be commissioned independently. Scope and fee agreed before production; bespoke concepts and additional languages are quoted.

Brand films develop a complete creative direction and brand story. Short videos and adverts can explore different product benefits, opening hooks or use cases. Your team publishes the content; we review the feedback and recommend which directions to develop.

03 · Cross itA founder at each end

Cross it. Introduced in person.

We find out how a category really reaches its customers, check every partner before you meet them, and make the introductions ourselves. Never cold, never on commission. Selected examples of our work:

A Chinese beauty brand into Britain. They asked for a high-street chemist. An hour of looking changed which door we knock on.
+

Established at home, a moisturiser as the lead product. They asked for a quote and an introduction to a distributor supplying a British high-street chain.

They asked for the chemist shelf→ The moisturiser that leads that shelf sells for about £3. This one belongs in department stores and specialist beauty retail.
EU certified, so ready to sell→ Great Britain is separate. A UK Responsible Person and a UK product notification come first.
The claims that sell at home→ Several read as medicinal in Britain. The English story is rewritten around what can be said.
A distributor→ There are at least three kinds. The established ones invest only once a brand has some presence here, so the story comes before the introduction.
A British book into China. The right Chinese publisher, approached by us, negotiated by us.
+

We act for an author published in Britain: finding the right Chinese-language publisher, making the approach ourselves, and leading the negotiation on rights, territory and payment with partners in Beijing and Hong Kong.

Who, not how many A short list of publishers who take the call because they know us.
What clears, and where Chinese-language is not one market. What can be published, by whom and in which territory shapes the deal.
One document, two languages Rights, territory, fees, payment route and tax, drafted side by side.
Until it is signed An introduction is not a handover. We stay in the room through the paperwork.
04 · The auditTen working days

Start with the audit.

Six questions answered in one document, English and 中文, with a plain verdict: go, not yet, or not this market. A one-hour readout with both founders. The fee is credited against whatever comes next.

01Objective

What you want this market for. One answer, written down.

02How you are seen

What a buyer there finds today, including what ChatGPT and Doubao say about you.

03What the market believes

The category, the price tiers, the competitors that matter.

04What clears

What you may sell and what you may say. Product rules, claims, trademark, entity, data.

05Routes and people

How the category reaches customers, and a first named list of who is worth approaching.

06 · QuestionsStraight answers

What clients actually ask.

Do you run our ads or manage our stores?
+

No. We make the content and design the test; your team or the media buyer you already use publishes it, and we read what comes back. We are never paid on ad spend.

Who does the regulated work?
+

Regulated firms we instruct and hold to the plan. They contract and bill you directly, we take no margin, and you may instruct any firm you prefer.

Who owns what you make for us?
+

You do. Full commercial licence and IP assignment on delivery, covering music, voice and every generated element. No subscription to keep using your own work.

Our material is confidential. Where does it go?
+

Strategy and client files stay with the founders. Production runs on our own engine, and we tell you in writing what reaches it. Nothing of yours trains a model.

Do we have to say AI made it?
+

Usually not; it depends on the claim and the channel. The rules concern misleading, not tools. We tell you where disclosure is needed and draft the wording. AI does the making; we do the judgement.

How long, and how much of our time?
+

Our part moves in days. From you: a kick-off, one interview round and two reviews. Regulators, banks and licensing bodies keep their own clock, and we do not promise dates we do not control.

09 · Before you land in ChinaFrom the back of the card
Read the table before you read the contract. The card carries seven of these. The full set, in the order they tend to come up.
+
  1. The host faces the door. The guest of honour sits at the host's right. Wait to be placed.
  2. When you clink, keep the rim of your glass below theirs. Lower again for anyone senior.
  3. Ganbei means drain it. Suiyi means sip. Say suiyi early, not after the third round.
  4. Tap two fingers on the table to thank whoever pours your tea. No need to stop talking.
  5. "We will study it" and "maybe" usually mean no. Nobody says the word. Hear the hesitation.
  6. Invited to Guandan, the card game? Go. It is the meeting after the meeting.
  7. Gifts: never a clock, never four of anything. Give and receive with both hands.
  8. The host orders. Do not open the menu unless it is handed to you.
  9. Leave a little on the shared plates. An empty table says the host under-ordered.
  10. The fight over the bill is theatre. As the guest, lose gracefully. As the host, pay before the bill arrives.
  11. A business card is read, not pocketed. Two hands to give, two to receive, a moment to look at it.
  12. WeChat is the office. An email may wait a week. A WeChat message is expected back within the hour.
  13. A gift may be refused twice before it is accepted. Offer three times. Do not open one in front of the giver.
  14. Eight is lucky, four is not. Prices, dates and room numbers are chosen accordingly, and so should yours be.
  15. Toast the table before you toast anyone in particular, and the most senior person before the person you actually want to talk to.
  16. The deal is agreed at dinner and confirmed in the office. Not the other way round.
  17. Baijiu comes in thimbles for a reason. Pace yourself to the host, not to your neighbour.
  18. Titles matter. Use them until told otherwise. First names arrive later than in London.
  19. Never correct a senior person in front of others. Face lost in public is not recovered in private. Raise it afterwards, one to one.
  20. Arrive through an introducer. A cold email is a stranger asking a favour. An introduction is a friend vouching for you, with their face now on the line beside yours.
  21. Every favour is recorded and every favour is repaid, though rarely at once. Accept help knowing you will be asked back.
  22. The signed contract is the start of the relationship, not the end of the negotiation. Be the partner who stays reasonable when terms are revisited.
  23. Send the senior person. A junior delegation, however capable, tells the room how much the deal matters to you.
